Our Speech & Language Therapy Solutions

Speech & language difficulties can be alarming, whether it’s you or your child who experience them. But Sol Speech & Language Therapy is here to help. Take a look below to see some of the primary disorders our local speech therapy clinic focuses on. Whether you’re a child or an adult, Sol Speech & Language Therapy can help.

There are a wide range of different disorders that can affect your speech. “Speech sound disorder” is an umbrella term that refers to any disorder that affects the way you form sounds.

This includes articulation disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, phonological disorders, and more.

Regardless, if you or your child has issues with forming certain sounds, Sol Speech & Language Therapy can help.

Autism isn’t a speech disorder itself, but it can be the underlying cause of a number of different speech issues.

If your child has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, or you suspect they may have autism, Sol Speech & Language Therapy can assist by evaluating your child for speech & language issues, and recommending a treatment plan for any issues they may have.

Our speech therapists are very experienced in treating those with autism overcome their speech and language disorders.

Stuttering & fluency disorders can lead to difficulty communicating, which is a problem on its own. But the issues can go much deeper than that.

A stutter can make you reluctant to use your voice altogether. This can cause social anxiety, which creates difficulties in your personal, professional, and romantic life.

Stuttering reduction therapy for adults and kids can help you reduce your stutter and communicate more clearly.

The qualified and licensed speech therapists at Sol Speech & Language Therapy can help with a wide range of speech & language disorders beyond those listed above as well.

If it has to do with communication, our Austin based speech therapists can help.

About Sol Speech & Language Therapy

Does your child seem to be developing their speech slower than expected?

Have you been struggling with a speech disorder that’s held you back in areas of your life?

Do you wish you could communicate clearly and be understood by the people around you?

If so, you’re not alone. There is help.

Founded in 2019 by Cortney Lhota, Sol Speech & Language Therapy helps people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds with speech & language disorders.

But they take a bit of a different approach than some clinics.

“What we do is rooted in the principles of speech language pathology,”

says Lhota.

“But we also take a holistic perspective.”

At Sol Speech & Language Therapy, it’s not just about addressing your individual speech disorders, but exploring how this can impact other areas of your or your child’s life and how issues in other areas of life can impact speech and language.

Adults with speech disorders, for example, often deal with social anxiety and isolation as a result. And children with speech disorders can sometimes develop their social skills at a slower rate than other kids their age.

Addressing your speech disorder might take care of the root cause of such issues, but the effects of the problem are still there.

That’s why Sol Speech & Language Therapy incorporates a variety of holistic practices into their services, including:

  • Mindfulness
  • Deep breathing exercises
  • Meditation
  • Nutritional consulting
  • Sensory integration therapy
  • Music therapy
  • Positioning
  • Parental & caregiver coaching

Combined with a conventional speech language pathology approach to treatment, these practices can help.

By dealing with both the cause and the effects of your speech disorders, Sol Speech & Language Therapy strives to help you or your child communicate more effectively.

Our Speech & Language Therapy Services

Kids are just little adults, so as a result many speech & language disorders can affect anybody at any age. However, there are some conditions that tend to affect adults or kids more often.

Choose the option that best suits your situation below to find out more.

In some cases, speech therapy for adults focuses on a condition you’ve been dealing with since birth. Stuttering, cluttering, and lisping fall under this category. While it’s best to treat these issues as young children, not everyone has access to speech therapy from a young age. Speech therapy for adults can still help.

Other cases may be speech issues that developed later in life, like aphasia from a stroke or a traumatic brain injury. In these cases, speech therapy for adults focuses on treatment helping you re-learn how to communicate.

Still others might not be disorders at all, like with accent modification & reduction. However, if it’s related to issues with communication as an adult, speech therapy treatments can help.

Kids don’t communicate very well when they’re first born. Language develops gradually and imperfectly before we learn to properly communicate ideas. So if your child is saying a few words wrong, that’s not surprising. However, there are certain milestones your child is expected to reach by certain ages. Every child is different, so a week or two’s delay is not a concern. However, if you’re noticing a significant delay, it could indicate a problem.

When it comes to pediatric speech therapy treatment, early intervention is critical. If you suspect your child has a speech or language disorder, contact Sol Speech & Language Therapy to book an evaluation. Your pediatric speech therapist will help you understand whether there is a deeper issue going on that warrants intervention.

Sol Speech & Language Therapy is happy to provide in-person speech therapy services in the Austin area. But there are some cases where you’re not able to make it in person, for whatever reason.

Maybe you’re dealing with an illness that makes it difficult to travel. Maybe you live in a remote area that doesn’t have any other speech therapists. Maybe you find the holistic approach at Sol Speech & Language Therapy interesting. Or maybe you’re a long time client, but you recently moved away and want to continue services.

Whatever your reason, Sol Speech & Language Therapy offers speech teletherapy services for most speech & language disorders.

Cortney Lhota did an evaluation on my daughter. She was professional, kind and made my daughter feel comfortable. Cortney then consulted with our current SLP over the phone and came to my daughter’s speech appointment with her current SLP to better advise us. We really appreciate her consulting with our SLP and providing us helpful information.

My son and I got the chance to work with Kadie for speech therapy and I can’t recommend her enough. She takes the time to understand the issue and comes up with fun and unique solutions. An example was when she notices my son points and nods a lot. So she suggested ASL along with speech and after class, my son said the word “more” with the ASL sign!

We are a few months into our partnership with Sol Speech & Language Therapy for our 2.5 y/o. Ms. Val, our therapist, is communicative and a wealth of knowledge for at home resources for continued practice at home. Her passion for these kids to make gains and become proficient exudes from the results we see after every session. If I could give more stars to this company and Ms. Val, I wouldn't hesitate. We are so appreciative for Ms. Val & the personnel at Sol.

Great speech therapy services! My son just met his goal and completed his weekly teletherapy sessions with Nicole DeBerry Smith M.S. CCC-SLP. Nicole was fantastic with him. His pronunciation of words is so much clearer and he is putting more thought into his speech. If you were hesitant to take action thinking your child will just out grow it please contact her now! Sol also accepts most medical insurance and that was wonderful for us to only have a co-pay weekly. Thank you Nicole and Courtney!

Cortney and her office staff have been wonderful. Scheduling an initial evaluation was easy, and the office was diligent working with our insurance plan. Cortney is amazing with our son, and instantly recognized him as having CAS. She is patient and very supportive. She is very knowledgable and has been able to teach us to help our son better communicate. We are truly lucky to have found her to help us improve our son's communication and speech.

We've been doing speech therapy sessions twice per week for for one of our kids for about 3.5 months and am very happy that I found them. They take our insurance and it was easy to get started and get assessed and our therapist periodically assesses him as he progresses. We definitely could not have made this level of progress on my own. They make doing speech therapy fun for the child!

We have noticed good progress with our son. Initially I was hesitant to pursue speech therapy sessions that were not in person, but the Zoom option in the comfort of our own home has been awesome, for me and him! If your child is in need of speech services I recommend SOL Speech & Language, our speech therapist Nicole D. has been great and we are hearing the difference. In addition they work with your insurance and process the co-pay accordingly. I wish we would have started years ago!

These ladies are amazing, they really take the time to work with you and your little one to ensure they’re doing all they can, while also respecting the time you have to make it to their office. They have helped my son progress so much my son’s pediatrician was blown away when she saw him last! She said whatever I’m doing to keep doing it lol made me so happy as a mom. While every other place wasn’t concerned about making time to help my son these ladies did ☺️ and I couldn’t be more thankful. I will keep bringing him here for as long as he needs this help. With sol speech and therapy’s help, we won’t need them forever lol. But that’s exactly what I think all of us parents want to hear, means it’s all working 🥰 thank you ladies so much!! Don’t worry my opinion is very authentic and true, not for any other reasons haha. But when something works you have to spread the word, so if you’re seeking help reach out! Worth it in more ways than one!

Sol Speech and Language has been great for our little one's language development. His vocabulary has expanded and he's more confident in trying to say new words and phrases! We especially love that our speech therapist Kadie can see our son at directly at our daycare. It's so simple and the results speak for themselves!

Brandi has been so effective at building a foundation of trust with my son. As a result, we’ve seen our son take significant growth steps in his progress. We’re so grateful for her patience, expertise and excellent resourcing to provide our son the best opportunity for growth and success!

I moved to the area in January, and was struggling to find a new speech therapist for my son who goes to ABA full time. I previously was with a different company, and the communication was TERRIBLE, thankfully I was put in touch with SOL the process has been much smoother, and quick. Kadie has been working with my son for a few months now, and she's been so kind, and patient and provides updates on his progress and tips on things that I can work on at home. Any questions I have she's willing to answer, and walk me through as much as she can. This is like shopping at Target in comparison the the other company I was with which was like Dollar Tree. I would recommend 10/10.
Valerie has been wonderful to work with for my son! He is a totally different kid and it's amazing to see him not so frustrated. Couldnt be more thankful to Valerie for all her help!

Questions About Speech & Language Therapy?

If you’re new to speech therapy, you might have questions about how it works. And if you’re not, you might be curious how a holistic speech therapy approach differs from other clinics.

Either way, take a look below to see if your question has already been answered. If not, feel free to reach out and ask.

A speech therapist, or speech language pathologist as they’re more formally known, is highly trained. In order to practice as a speech therapist, you need to hold at least a master’s degree in the field. Sol Speech & Language Therapy founder Cortney Lhota earned her master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from the University of Central Florida in 2012.

A holistic speech therapist is a speech therapist who takes a holistic approach to treating speech disorders. This can mean a range of different techniques. Sol Speech & Language Therapy incorporates mindfulness, nutrition, music therapy, and more. A holistic speech therapist must be fully licensed and qualified to practice as a speech therapist.

No, anybody can book an appointment with Sol at any time. However, you might need a doctor’s referral in order for your insurance to cover the appointment. See your individual insurance plan for more information.

Each individual speech therapy appointment lasts for 30 minutes, with a few exceptions. As for the number of treatments needed, it’s difficult to say. Some people respond very quickly to treatment, while others take longer. Your speech therapist will provide you with regular updates to help you gauge you or your child’s progress.

Pediatricians aren’t trained in speech & language development as much as speech therapists are. If you’re concerned about your child’s development, reach out to book an appointment to get a second opinion from a speech therapist.
