Cortney founded Sol Speech & Language Therapy in 2019, as a way to bring a more holistic approach to speech and language therapy in Austin. She recognizes the importance of a client-centered approach, promotes a caregiver friendly environment, and close collaboration with other providers to make the most of the therapy experience. Cortney also has extensive experience in special education advocacy– providing expert evaluation services and testimony in special education due process hearings.
Cortney is a nationally certified speech-language pathologist, currently practicing in Austin, Texas, by way of Miami and Washington D.C. She graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF) with a B.S. and M.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders, in 2012.
Since then, Cortney has worked in a range of settings with children, adolescents, and adults presenting with a variety of diagnoses and disorders. Cortney has specialization in comprehensive speech & language evaluation, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, oral motor and feeding difficulties, and early intervention (birth-3 years). She is trained in the Kaufman protocol and Dynamic Temporal & Tactile Cueing (DTTC) for Childhood Apraxia of Speech, as well as in the identification and treatment of Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs). Additionally, Cortney integrates a holistic approach into her work, including deep breathing techniques, guided relaxation/meditation, and sensory based activities. She has led numerous child, adolescent and adult social skills groups targeting social communication impairments.
Cortney is currently licensed in Texas and California, and holds a Certificate in Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
