At Sol Speech And Language Therapy, we recognize that starting speech and language therapy and/or navigating a new diagnosis can be overwhelming.

Therefore, we want to provide our families with a comprehensive list of our favorite resources.

Austin Favorites

Supplemental Special Education Services

Supplemental Special Education Services (SSES) are $1,500 one-time online grants for eligible parents/caregivers of eligible students served by special education that have been impacted by COVID-19 school closures.

Families of eligible students can use the online accounts to obtain educational materials and resources and/or services such as additional speech therapy. There is no income requirement.

To be eligible for the SSES grant, students must currently be:

enrolled in a Texas public school,
enrolled in PreK – 12th grade,
and a student with a disability served through Special Education.

Austin Smiles

The Austin Plastic Surgery Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide sustainable surgical care and therapy to children born with cleft lip and cleft palate both in Central Texas and Latin America. One in 700 children is born with a cleft lip or palate, which impacts their ability to communicate intelligibly, receive proper nourishment, and their overall quality of life. Austin Smiles, in collaboration with local and in-country entities, aims to develop a continuum of care to identify and treat these children as early as possible. In Central Texas, we provide wraparound supports including therapy services, surgery care kits, referrals and other assistance for over 800 children annually who are undergoing surgery at Dell Children’s Medical Center.

One of the Kids

Founded by parents of an autistic son, One of the Kids aspires to provide a better approach to autism treatment for children with ASD. Caring for kids with autism takes commitment — from therapists, from instructors, and from family members. But therapy doesn’t have to feel like work. We believe self-discovery is essential for development. Basically, we think kids should be kids. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is our foundation. We provide a naturalistic approach tailored to the needs of our kids and their families, targeting essential social skills that support continued growth. Our interdisciplinary treatment encourages kids to create, cooperate, and play in a natural environment — designed with relaxing spaces that foster exploration.

Brittney Polston, MOT OTR PLLC

Brittany is a wonderful pediatric occupational therapist in Austin, Texas delivering holistic, home-based and tele-therapy services specializing in sensory integration, fine motor delay, feeding therapy and developmental delay. She graduated from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in 2011 with her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy (MOT). She moved to Austin just a couple of weeks before graduating, and has spent the last 12 years working with local families to hone her experience with the pediatric population. She has been fortunate to have worked with a wide range of clientele in Travis and Williamson County, including working in outpatient clinics, home-based, and residential treatment centers for children in foster care and appreciated each for their various perks and quirks.

We have been looking for a long time for a good speech therapist for our son as he has autism and is non-verbal. It has... been difficult, but we finally found Cortney and Sol Speech and it has been such a blessing. She not only works hard with our son but also keeps us up to date on his progress as well as how we can reinforce his therapy. Our last speech therapist would not update us on progress and would cancel the sessions abruptly at least 2x a month. Cortney goes above and beyond, thinking of ways to reach out to our son. She treats him at his ABA clinic and has arranged times that we can participate virtually as well. Every day she has seen our son she keeps us in the loop and has improved his verbal progress and built new strategies to try beyond our prior therapist. She is reliable, organized, and extremely thorough with our son creating new ways to reach him that no other specialist has. The most important thing is that our son loves her. He is shy but has lots of energy and is very open hearted when he finds good people. He has opened his heart to Cortney since the first day and this says so much to us. Cortney has 10 years’ experience with speech therapy, but you would think it's her first day based on her enthusiasm and love of working with children like our son. Other moms and parents that I have spoken to are blown away with her, and they are very grateful and feel the same way we do. Our son is our whole world, so I always refer to Cortney and her company to meet their needs.read more

We initially came to Cortney for an evaluation for suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech. It is a rare motor speech... disorder and after doing a lot of research on my own, I knew we needed to find someone who specializes in motor planning speech therapy. She immediately recognized that my son presents with CAS and has been providing therapy for him twice per week for the last two months and I already recognize progress with varying sounds, more syllables, and more words per sentence. Our daycare told me that Sol was already seeing a child at our daycare so I decided to try them even though they are... out of network for us. We had previously been at another clinic but chose to take a break for various reasons. I was able to communicate with their office via email over the weekend and got set up for the following week. I was able to sit in on one in person session and now 2 virtual sessions. I saw significant progress in my 5 year old in just the first week! Nicole had been given his previous report but was able to accurately assess the other things he needed to work on. Sol speech therapy has been so helpful for our 2 year old to help him get up to speed after his ear tubes surgery. We... went to another (highly rated, I might add) speech therapy center in austin before finding Sol, and every session we left feeling like it was a waste of time. With Sol, every session is so fun and helpful. Ms. Brandi is so fun and full of energy! She not only teaches our son, but she really teaches my husband and I different ways to encourage language. On top of speech, she has also helped us with picky eating! We cannot be more happy with the service she has provided to our family. Also, I love that she comes to our house. It’s not covered on insurance, but the sessions are less than $100 each. For not being covered, the quality of service provided, AND coming to the house, it feels like a bargain. Before I reached out Sol Therapy, I did quite a long time research on different organizations. Sol gave me the best... experience. We initial contact via email on 04/06 . All setting up process are so clear and easy to be done online.Brandi did the speech evaluation at my place on 04/27. she is very professional and speak out her observations in a very straightforward way. we are a bilingual family (English and Mandarin), so she also did some research on non-English speakers therapy after the visit and gave me her conclusion the next day. Fortunately, my boy does not need speech therapy based on the test scores which really relief me.Cortney and Brandi are so communicable and responsible. Brandi Mills is an amazing therapist! She has worked with all 3 of my boys and they all love her. From speech to... feeding therapy she has a way of connecting with the kids. Making an individual plan for each of my kids that helps them thrive on their terms. Learning the way that works the best for them. My oldest son who's autistic was the first one to work with Brandi and he was a picky kiddo at the time. Her kindness was so welcoming and he picked up on that. He was non verbal and that changed quickly with the help of Brandi. She helped us through my 6 year old having tongue tie surgery. Teaching him the correct stretches to use afterwards to avoid scar tissue. Working on his pronunciation of words due to his speech delay and tongue tie.
